When a document is produced at your own end by typing text the user has the text formatted doc files. But when one is copying the text from some Scan image, it is difficult to edit it or convert the image captured text in to editable doc files. For such conversions one would generally need a OCR or Optical Character Recognition Software, which one can run, over the image file and convert the words and alphabets or numbers in to a editable form. It may be simpler to do OCR in English language but conversion of Text from scanned images of Book pages in Hindi is not so easy. ILDC have developed a Free Hindi OCR Software which can be used to Scan pages and create Hindi text files from any Hindi Documents through OCR . The OCR generates hindi text which can now be further edited through any Word-processor on a PC having related Hindi fonts intalled.
सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग ने किसी प्रकार के भाषायी अवरोध के बिना मानव-मशीन संपर्क की सुविधा प्रदान करने के प्रयोजन से सूचना संसाधन साधनों का विकास करने; बहुभाषी ज्ञान स्रोतों का निर्माण एवं अभिगम करने; तथा अभिनव प्रयोक्ता उत्पादों एवं सेवाओं के विकास के लिए उनका एकीकरण करने के उद्देश्य से टीडीआईएल (भारतीय भाषाओं के लिए प्रौद्योगिकी विकास) कार्यक्रम आरंभ किया। कार्पोरा तथा शब्दकोश जैसे भाषा-विज्ञान संसाधनों के विकास; तथा फोंट, पाठ संपादक, वर्तनी परीक्षक, ओसीआर और पाठ-से-वाणी जैसे मूलभूत सूचना संसाधन साधनों के विकास के लिए परियोजनाओं को धनराशि उपलब्ध कराई गई। मानक भी तैयार किए गए हैं।
Hindi users are often required to Scan the Hindi Documents and use them for wordprocessing. So it is required to perform the OCR or the Optical Character Recognition of the Hindi document to capture the hindi text in editable form, so the hindi document can be further edited using any Hindi wordprocessor and saved to another destination or used for other purposed.
